Once you have completed the five self-reflection areas of the website (Life Skills, Career Skills, Adult Learner, Career Track Fitting and Career Pathways) it is time to take action. Have you identified skills that you would like to acquire? Maybe you would like to begin training in a new career. The CLIMB Centre team would love to help you take your next step.
What happens now?
A coordinator will email you a registration package for an online course called College Success once you have moved through the five different areas of the portal. This course has a value of over $100 and is tuition-waived for all CLIMB participants. A full description of the course can be found below. After completing the Climb College Success course, you may qualify for up to $100 in courses from the Continuing Education department at Northern Lights College. Please contact the Climb coordinators for more information.
Climb College Success is a 100% online course that introduces how to do online courses and take quizzes. This course covers a variety of topics to help you be successful in any post-secondary training and can be completed in a couple of afternoons. Topics include how to take notes, how to write a test, making a budget, maintaining mental health, the difference between in-person and online courses, grading schemes and academic integrity.
If you are interested in a career in the trades but are unsure you meet the math requirements, this course is for you! Pre-Foundational Trades Math is a 100% online course offered multiple times a year. The course takes six weeks and requires a time commitment of 8-10 hours per week. An instructor is available to assist you as you move through this course that covers all math requirements, from basic operations to algebra and trigonometry. This unique course incorporates hands-on learning where students construct a model building and design a backyard. NLC will waive the tuition of this $300+ course for any CLIMB participant that completes the Climb College Success course.
